4 Interview questions for senior digital marketing roles

You may be unsure about the particular questions you might be asked in your upcoming marketing job interview and how to answer them effectively. Here are a few questions you can expect and some advice on how best to answer.

1. Describe a successful marketing campaign you have completed…

As someone who already has plenty of experience in the field, the answer to this question should come fairly easy to you. Describe the project that most displayed your skills and describe how you managed to pull it off. Don’t shy away from stating the difficult aspects of the project or things that went wrong; these are essentially learning curves and the fact that you recognise and are prepared to learn from mistakes along the way are definitely thought highly of by future employers.

2. What are the qualities of a good leader?

The interviewer will be analysing whether you could manage certain aspects of their company effectively. State how you have used your skills and initiative to lead on projects, with examples such as creativity, impartiality, sincerity and decisiveness. But don’t forget to include your listening skills too, you need to show you are compassionate and can get on with a range of colleagues and clients.

3. If you have ever had a personal crisis, how did you deal with it?

Although personal life may not seem to have any relation to your job role, interviewers may be interested to know how something personal affected you and how you coped despite being put under severe pressure and upset. Senior roles require a great deal of responsibility, therefore you may face obstacles or unforeseen instances that you will need to deal with on a daily basis. Ensure your answer shows how you successfully handled your work commitments.

4. What do you know about online and mobile marketing?

If you are someone who has worked in the field for years, perhaps far before online marketing truly took off, interviewers will need to know whether you have adapted to the online aspect of marketing with proof of any successful campaigns that you have run. Mention blogs and apps that were useful and how you managed to draw attention by using social media as a tool.
